After winning the Isle of Man regional 'Young Analytical Chemist' competition, Amy, Nathan and Rhys carried the Isle of Man torch to the Western Regional segment of the competition.
The competition took place at the University of Liverpool on Saturday 3rd March in the Chemistry Department laboratories. This gave the students the opportunity to mass spectroscopy equipment and work in a large University laboratory. With thirty highly respected schools and sixth form colleges competing, the competition was hard fought and the team gave an excellent show by all accounts, however they missed out on a top three place. This was a great opportunity to compete in a highly prestigious competition and the students gave an excellent account for themselves.
The School and the students would like to thank Keith James, Ingeborg Bushmann and Helen Aspinall of the Royal Society of Chemistry for their efforts in bringing the competition to the Island and we look forward to competing again next year.
