Mock United Nations Security Council

Published Wednesday 14 December 2016

At the end of last week, seven of our Sixth Form students travelled to King William’s College to take part in a Mock United Nations Security Council event.

Whilst ‘representing’ a country, the students discussed and voted on making amendments to a draft resolution about what action was to be taken due to the ongoing crisis in Syria. Our students took on the roles of delegates from Malaysia, Venezuela and Spain.

This was a fabulous opportunity for young people to experience the environment of a political setting and to practice their negotiating and debating skills. It was also fantastic that His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor was present and active within the debate. Sharing his expertise and experience within this area meant that the students learned from him and he made the experience so much more valuable.
