On Tuesday 6th February, the students and staff were treated to an in depth look at a McLaren Artura Supercar. The STEM initiative was the brainchild of Rob Yates from McLaren Automotive, who was brought up on the island and attended St Ninian’s High School. QEII have worked with tech charity ‘Lovetech’ to plan and coordinate this extremely beneficial activity. The McLaren team, consisting of Rob Yates, Ella Podmore MBE and Beth Elliot, were impressed with the knowledge of some of our Product Design students which was great. Students from RGS and CRHS managed to get in on the visit too, on the basis of them studying Physics A level in collaboration with QEII, which further enhanced the value of the visit. Our KS4 and KS5 Design and Technology students will be able to use the knowledge in their forthcoming Product Design examinations.
Scale models of the car were presented to two Year 10 students, William and Seb, who shone in the Question and Answer session and made a great impression on Ella who is an expert in material technology.
Many thanks to Lovetech representatives, Adam Hammond and Alexandria Halsall, for helping to pull off such a great event.
