Year 9 and 10 students travelled to Belgium and France this half term to visit the trenches, memorials and front lines of World War One.
One of their favourite activities was visiting Vimy Ridge, a Canadian front line trench, where students experienced first-hand the 25 metre ‘no man’s land’ and learnt all about the contributions of the Commonwealth soldiers in the war.
Students stayed in the Belgian town of Ypres, an important geographical location in the war, where they visited museums, Allied and German grave sites and memorials.
Some of our students even visited the final resting places of relatives who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the Great War.
As well as all this learning, the students had a great time improving their bowling skills and tasting Belgian chocolate and waffles!
Well done to all the students - you were a credit to the school and represented QEII and the Isle of Man brilliantly. We look forward to hearing more about your trip in assemblies to come.
