We are delighted to announce that earlier this term the Geography Department were awarded the Secondary Geography Quality Mark (SGQM) by the Geographical Association; a three year status that is only currently held by around 100 educational settings worldwide.
The SGQM is an award that recognises quality and progress in geography leadership, curriculum development and learning and teaching. The rigorous self-evaluation process over the last academic year involved the whole department collaboratively reviewing and adapting schemes of learning in order to demonstrate the high quality geographical education experienced by students at QEII.
The national moderators commented “You tell the story of a small, but very dedicated and innovative department, which has put a lot of effort into identifying and making continuous improvements” and that the sequencing of topics, teaching methods and examples used across the different year groups “will further develop a sense of place and increase your pupils’ personal and social identity.”
