Re: Changes to our Mobile Phone Policy

There will be some changes to our current protocols for mobile phone use at school, as a result of the revised Mobile Phone Policy view here.

These small changes will ensure that we are aligned to the Department for Education, Sport and Culture’s Mobile Phone Policy. The changes will take effect after Easter (22nd April 2025) and we will work with our students in the first week back supporting them with a ‘grace period’ of a week, to help them to adapt to the changes.

Policy Updates:

  • Students are permitted to bring their mobile phone to school but must keep them switched off and out of sight when they enter the school building. They then must remain switched off throughout the school day (including break and lunchtimes).
  • Devices must not be visible until students leave the school building at the end of the school day or until enrichment activities have finished.
  • Mobile phones may be used in certain circumstances, when arrangements are approved by the Headteacher, such as supporting the operation of a medical device.
  • The Sixth Form are permitted to only use mobile phones or smart devices in the Common Room at break and lunchtimes. Laptops are provided for students to use in the library, should they wish to access technology for their reading and research.

Policy Breaches:

  • Whilst we hope that the grace period will enable students to get used to the new protocols, after this time, breaches of this policy would be dealt with in accordance with the school’s Acceptable Use Policy and Behaviour Policy, which can be found on the school website: Policies

To ensure students are informed of these changes, we held assemblies last week.

We appreciate your support in reinforcing the revised procedures with your child and thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we strive to provide a supportive, safe and effective learning environment for our students.

As always, should you need to contact your child at school for an urgent matter, please call 841000 and we will do our utmost to ensure your message is passed on.
