Grand Concert - Friday 16th October

Published Friday 23 October 2020

Friday 16th October saw the School Hall filled with over 80 musicians and a capacity audience to enjoy the fifth annual concert performed jointly by the QEII High School Wind Band and the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra.

Both bands played a short programme each during the first part of the evening that featured music from John Williams, Taylor Swift, G.F. Handel and Queen amongst others. The bands then combined to perform together, the joint performance beginning with Mr Wright from the IOMWO conducting John Williams’ ‘Olympic Spirit’ and Michael Sweeney’s ‘When Sun Breaks Through The Mist’. Mr Wright then handed the baton over to QEII’s Mr Kinley who directed both bands through the evening’s finale of 'Korobushka’ and ‘The Beatles: 1964’. The evening also included a presentation of a cheque, by Roo from year 9, for over £1000 to the ‘Teapot Trust’ who provide art therapy for children and young adults in Nobles Hospital.

The evening was a great success and raised £1000, which will be split equally between the QEII School Association and the Teapot Trust.
