Yesterday members of the School Council took part in the first ever QEII High School, School Council Conference with the aim of developing a new ‘Student Charter’.
The conference began with opening remarks and welcome by Ms Moore to our guest speaker, Mrs Daphne Caine MHK, who had been invited as not only an MHK, but also as the Governments ‘Children’s Champion’ to speak about the power of democracy with particular reference to the Isle of Man.
Following Mrs Caine’s informative and thought provoking speech, the School Council began work to establish their vision for the School and what we need to do to achieve it. This was in preparation for developing the new ‘Student Charter’ which was the main aim of the event.
The morning’s conference closed with a summary of what had been achieved and the next steps needed to produce a draft ‘Student Charter’ which could be taken to tutor and year groups early next half term.
Feedback from the group was very positive with comments such as “inspirational”, "educational and informative”, “good fun” and “interesting” offered by some of the members.
Special thanks go to our guest speaker, who gave up her valuable time to speak to us and help us during the conference.
The conference was considered to be a big success and it is hoped that this will now become an annual event on the QEII calendar.
