Success in The Manx Youth Bard 2019

Published Friday 1 March 2019

Congratulations to our students, Holly and Esther, on their recent success in ‘The Manx Youth Bard’ Poetry Competition.

Holly, year 11, was the overall winner and Esther, year 12, took runner up. Their poetry was shortlisted for the competition and they were then interviewed by a judging panel and performed their poetry to the judges. The judges were overwhelmed with Holly’s performance of her poem titled ‘Fenella’.

Well done girls on your fantastic achievements, you have done yourselves and the School proud!

An excerpt from Holly's winning poem 'Fenella' -

"A kiss that lingered on her lips,

The rain that poured; cold wind did nip,

What sorrow for Fenella waits,

As lovers part to meet their fate"

An excerpt from Esther's poem 'An Island Home' -

"That night the moon shone brightly in the clear sky;

Inside the sea-beaten walls of Peel Castle,

the Moddey Dhoo howled its sad tale.

The beauty of the hills still mists my eyes,

All around me, Manannan cloaks this magic isle"
