A level Geography urban fieldwork in Manchester

Published Friday 17 February 2017

As part of the A level exam specification, our Year 13 Geographers have just taken part in a highly enjoyable and very hectic few days in Manchester, collecting and analysing data to use in their forthcoming exams.

The group headed out on Sunday 12th February for a three night stay in Castlefields. Their packed schedule included a visit to MOSI to gain an understanding of the development of Manchester as a world city. Detailed studies were carried out in the Castlefield, Piccadily and Millenium Quarters. According to one of the students who had a ‘Fitbit’ they managed to walk 15km on this day alone!

Another packed itinerary followed on Tuesday with a study of Sports-led regeneration in East Manchester (the Velopark and Etihad campus), then on to New Islington for a tour of the work of Urban Splash and then to Ancoats. The day ended with a tour of the Trafford Centre and a very well deserved meal for the group at Nandos!
