Mathematics is a fundamental subject on any school curriculum. At Queen Elizabeth II High School, our Mathematics curriculum provides an effective way of building mental discipline and encourages logical reasoning and mental rigour. In addition, the mathematical knowledge studied plays a crucial role in understanding the contents of other school subjects such as science, social studies, and even music and art.

Our pedagogy is underpinned by a spiral curriculum which bases future teaching on building blocks previously taught. The work that we cover in all KS3 years is designed to help students to learn key skills that will then be required for their GCSEs. Our curriculum enables students to learn within an articulate and stimulating framework which does not limit our students’ ambitions. We allow them to develop new skills through a variety of interesting contexts to help foster enjoyment of our subject. We break concepts down into small, connected and structured steps enabling application to a range of contexts.

We believe success in maths for every child is possible. We have high expectations for all our students to both enjoy and be successful in maths.
