Art is about being a creative thinker, about solving problems and about seeing the potential in whatever happens. Things are never wrong in art they are just a new opportunity to explore. Art encourages self-expression and creativity; it builds confidence as well as a sense of individual identity. We build essential skills such as analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and critical judgment. But most of all it is a subject we love, and we are passionate about it. The department has a Pinterest profile with over 11,600 art works pinned to a variety of boards, we challenge you to remain unenthusiastic after a visit!
We cover every art skill you could think of, traditional and abstract, photography, animation, ceramics, sculpture, installations, environmental and political art work, painting and drawing, printmaking, mixed media, collage, casting into resin or plaster, we can build with wood, twigs, bricks; in fact if you can imagine it we will do our best to facilitate it. Our staff are committed, enthusiastic and bring their own specialisms to the table. As practising artists ourselves, we see the value developing our skills brings to our mental health and self-esteem as well as to our career.
